The Dance Choreographer: SHAWN BYFIELD
Shawn Byfield has the distinction of receiving a DORA MAVOR MOORE AWARD for his expert dance choreography in Toronto’s hit musical “i think i can”. He is a veteran of TV & film and is an internationally renowned dance choreographer and instructor. Shawn is currently CEO of SUGARFOOT ENTERTAINMENT, Director of National Tap Dance Ensemble FUNK FACTORY, a dance competition judge, and Co-Director of THRIVE ENTERTAINMENT.
A resident of Toronto, Shawn Byfield is a leading authority for creating energetic, interactive choreography for stage, corporate events, television shows and the fashion industry. Byfield had the exciting honour of being a Gemini Award nominee for the T.O. Variety Show, Toronto Dances. He was also highly considered to be a dance judge for the first season of So You Think You Can Dance Canada.
As a performer, a few of his film and TV performance credits include roles in: HAIRSPRAY, Blues Brothers 2000, Taal, Bojangles, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, The Music Man, Death To Smoochie, The Ladies Man, The Juno Awards, Slings & Arrows, Royal Canadian Air Farce, Instant Star. Shawn travels often as a dance teacher and dance studio choreographer across the country. Past students have performed with top music artists including Britney Spears, Robbie Williams, Aaron Carter and Janet Jackson, and have appeared in hit television shows such as So You Think You Can Dance Canada and Degrassi: The Next Generation.
As a motivating instructor and mentor, many of Shawn’s students have become respected dance professionals in film, television, as dancers on cruise ships and music theatre performers. Byfield is a fun-loving professional with integrity, and has a thirst for continuous growth and self-improvement. He’s always eager to develop new ideas while sharing his love of dance and choreography throughout the world.
